As announced in a previous article, the Algiers Herald has successfully launched an international campaign to train Algerian diplomats. The campaign titled “Save Algeria’s diplomacy” was launched mid-June and has so far attracted much interest.
Hundreds of embassies, and international companies, have been approached by the Algiers Herald in order to organise funding for the campaign, so far, a number of embassies have expressed their interest.
The campaign which is being coordinated by the Algiers Herald aims at bringing Algeria’s diplomacy back up to standard. In practice, the campaign will revolve around different modules assessed as being relevant to deficiencies observed on the ground:
- A module dispensed by academics on the new international power dynamics, in particular in the Mediterranean.
- A course on ethics, drug abuse and corruption.
- A third module will draw on history and will be dispensed by historians. This module will look at nationhood, national identity and democracy.
Although it is too early to have a confirmed date for the first classes, the Algiers Herald team is working as fast as possible to have the funding arranged and the courses tailored.
